Commanders Corner

Because of the length of time between my Commander’s Corner, due to the fact our bulletin was quarterly for Jan - Mar, I will touch on the highlights of our activities over the last 3 months.

January 1st welcomed in the new year (2016), I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve and I wish all our Post Comrades and Auxiliary members good health and prosperity in the new year. January was pretty slow other then the Department Mid Winter Conference in which our Post Surgeon Cheri Knox attended in my sted, and the Post Patriots Pen, Voice of Democracy and Youth Essay Ice Cream Social. The kid’s were great and a big thanks to the Auxiliary for making this event a sucess.

February, we hosted the District 9 Memorial servic and meeting, and the District Patriots Pen, Voice of Democracy, and Youth Essay Ice Cream Social. We also had our Post anniversary Dinner and Honored our Past Commanders and Auxiliary Presidents. We had the Honorable Mayor of the City of Spokane Valley as our guest speaker for this event and the District Commander also attended and assisted me in giving out some Post and Auxiliary awards.

March, as usual was a busy month with the preperation abd serving of our annual Corned beef and cabbage dinner, which was a great success. Thanks to all who made this happen. We also had our annual Easter Egg Hunt / Party, and for the first time in years this event was held at the Post. It was a great event and a good time was had by all. Parents at this event were very receptive to us moving back here, as they got a first hand look at who we are and what we stand for. So as you can see your Post has been a very busy place these last three months.

At this time I would like to thank all the volunteers and voluntold’s who worked so hard to make all these events a sucess. THANK YOU. It appears spring has sprung with this beautiful weather, so get out and enjoy. In the 2016 year, Iexpect Post 1435 will be viabl and a Post all members wilkl again be proud of. In closing, I hope we can all keep our thoughts and preyers for the Belgian people in thier time of trgady. These acts of terrorism only remind all of us to vigilant at all times.

Always remember “No one does more for Veterans than the VFW”

Yours in Comradeship, Don Atkinson, Commander Post 1435

Auxiliary President

Sisters & Brothers:

Whewww….time flies when you’re having fun!! These last three months have gone by quickly. I attended Mid-Winter conference in Pasco in January. There are always good times and great fun visiting with other auxiliary members. Our Essay Ice-Cream Social was wonderful as always. It is such a great time to meet the kids, parents and teachers who keep Patriotism going in our community. I encourage everyone to attend this next year and listen to them read their essays. We held our VFW Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the post this year. We had about 75 kids and their families. Robin did a great job with planning it. 300 eggs were stuffed with candy and 15 dozen eggs were colored for the kids the “hunt”. They decorated cookies and we drew for baskets and cute little mason jar bunny do- hickeys that Robin made up. Thank you to ALL who helped with the preparation and donations to this. Our Easter Buffet had a very low turnout this year. I hope that next year we can get little more attendees.

We are back to monthly bulletins for the next 3 months. Upcoming events for April are: April 2nd Glen Albert’s (our Dept. of WA. Commander) home coming. Held at our post. April 9th is District meeting to be held at VFW Post 1474 (Hillyard) and April 10th is Marge Wright’s Fundraiser who is slated to be our next Dept. of WA. Auxiliary President. She’s a member of our district and the event will be held at our post.

Our meetings are back to the 2nd Tuesday of the month for the next few months. Please make it a point to attend our next one (April 12th at 6:00 p.m.) It will be nominations and elections. We need your help in filling our chairs and keeping our auxiliary going strong.

I hope that you all have a great month. Enjoy the nicer weather that’s coming and the Spring flowers that are popping up.

Loyally,

Michelle Madonna 230-2958

Men’s Prez Say’s”

Well, we made it though another winter and now that spring is here, it’s time to think BBQ’s, fishing and soon summer fun. We are planning on having several carwashes and BBQ’s this summer, plus a few Friday night Dinners, hopefully with a house band. We still need our Men’s Auxiliary members to pay thier dues for this year. Hope to see you all supporting the Post and all Auxiliary events. Thank you to all our members.

Many things to talk about this month. First off, I would like to thank all the volunteers that showed up to help out with the Corned Beef Dinner and the Youth Easter Party, both of which were excellent this year. Thanks to the Auxiliary members for all your devotion to these and all events.

We are electing the new Officer’s for the 2016-17 VFW year at this months meeting, so if you would like to be an Officer please show up and make your case.

We will be opening our Post Web Page (VFW1435.ORG) this month, please check it out, and make suggestions on how to improve it, as it will be a work in progress. Our membership is at 93.75%, 43 shy of 100%. Get your dues paid and sign up a new member if you can.

SURGEON

If you know of a member or family member of a veteran in need of medical equipment (wheelchair, walker, crutches, etc), or you know of a member that has passed or is in the hospital, please contact our Post Surgeon.

As always, I would like to thank all who have donated equipment, without your donations we would not be able to help our veterans that are in need.

Do to the generosity of our members, I have to decline any further donations, as we are running out of room to store what we already have. If you do have equipment that you need to get rid of call and I will try and find a good home for it.
