Commanders Corner

Where does the time go? April was a fairly quiet month at your Post. We hosted the Department Commander’s (Glenn Albert) homecoming on the 2nd of April, from which the Post and Men’s Auxiliary received many cudos on the event which was well attened.

We had our final nominations and elections for the 2016-17 Officer’s at our last meeting. Congatulations to the following: Elected Position: Commander: Don Atkinson, Sr. Vice: Matt Van Hook, Jr. Vice: Cameran Hartley, Chaplain, Cheri Knox, Quartermaster: Darren Hughes, 1 year trustee: Steve Fry, 2 year trustee: Doug Parks, 3 year trustee: Wally Sowers. Appointed: Adjutant: Darren Hughes, Surgeon: Chri Knox, VSO: Darren Hughes, Judge Advocae: Doug Parks, Officer of the Day: Doug Parks.

I am returning as Commander for another year,I will do to the best of my ability to guide our Post in the new VFW year. We have some challenges ahead but I’m convinced the leadership of your Post will meet any and all challenges head on, weather financial or in our reprisentation of the VFW in the community. We all opted to return in the same positions for the new year, as we now have the knowlage needed to progress even further then we did in this year.

Since this last month was fairly quiet, I will close with a few comments. I am proud to represent Post 1435 as your Commander, and will do everything within my control to uphold the traditions and standards of our Post and the VFW.

Now, it’s time to get out and enjoy our beautiful Spring weather, in doing so please stop in and see us for lunch and take advantage of our Friday Night Dinners.

Always remember “No one does more for Veterans than the VFW”

Yours in Comradeship, Don Atkinson, Commander Post 1435

HONORING POST MEMBER’S

Joe Hays (Life Member)

Joe has been an active member of the post for many years, and continues to support us when ever the need arises. Joe joined the United States Air Force in March of 1952 , He was a Boom operator on in flight refuelling tankers for many years. In talking with Joe, there are just to many types of tankers to list that he had the honor of operating. Joe retired in 1985 after 33 years of dedicated service. He served during the Vietnam War, the Iranian Hostage Crises and the many years of the Russian Cold War.

Joe’s service to his Country was, and to this day is what makes this Country great, we are so very lucky to have members like him as part of our Post.

After retiring, he began working at the Fairchild Lodge and became the most well known of all civilians on the base, until he retired from again in 2010 after another 25 years.

Comrades, Sisters and Brothers please let Joe know how proud you are of his service to this great nation and our Post the next time you see him.

On behalf of the Post and Auxiliary Officer’s and our members Thank you for a job well done.

If you know someone you would like to honor here please get the information to Darren.

Quartermaster Comments

Summer will be her before you know it, please remember that this is a lean time of year for our canteen, so if you are in the area please stop in and have a cold one. I say COLD, because we just had our cooler serviced and the beverages are colder than ever. Thanks to the Auxiliary members for all your devotion to all events.

We Have elected the new Officer’s for the 2016-17 VFW year at the last monthly meeting. Congrats to all...

We opened our Post Web Page (vfwpost1435.ORG) last month, please check it out, and make suggestions on how to improve it, as it is a work in progress.

Our membership is at 95.78%, 29 shy of 100%. Get your dues paid and sign up a new member if you can.

Darren Hughes, Quartermaster (509) 535-9315

SURGEON

If you know of a member or family member of a veteran in need of medical equipment (wheelchair, walker, crutches, etc), or you know of a member that has passed or is in the hospital, please contact our Post Surgeon.

As always, I would like to thank all who have donated equipment, without your donations we would not be able to help our veterans that are in need.

Do to the generosity of our members, I have to decline any further donations, as we are running out of room to store what we already have. If you do have equipment that you need to get rid of call and I will try and find a good home for it.
